Foolish Neglect of our Brothers/Sisters in Gaza
Even before I received Naomi Regan's email today, I knew that there were insufficient resources available to help these disengaged families after they were put on buses. The government expected resistence to the very end, so they should have figured out that even though most of the settlers did not apply for housing ahead of time, that they would still need basic support services ie. food and shelter! Wake up, Israeli government, you kicked them out so at least have a place for them to go. Here's what Ms. Regan had to say:
disengagement
1. Fact: No one has received a penny in compensation to help them rent apartments and set them up. 2. Fact: Many of those who wanted to leave and were promised containers for their households have not received them and left with the clothes on their backs. 3.Fact: No one has helped the farmers to save their produce, move their equipment. 4. Fact: Many families, traumatized, arrived after hours on buses to find themselves going from hotel to hotel because no arrangements had been made. No psychologists were greet them and help them. Nothing.
What a horror these past two days have been! These images of forced eviction of Jews broadcast for all the world to see, perpetrated on them by fellow Jews...this I never expected to see in my lifetime. My kids saw this too. What do I say to them? My 12 year-old daughter has been wearing orange for weeks now, including "Gush Katif" shirts and wristbands sent to us by our Israeli friends. Yet she doesn't say much about it, she just wears it in her own quiet way.
