Defending AIPAC, Israel
I found this response in my email box today:
For Professor Mearsheimer and Professor Walt to suggest that American support of Israel's security needs will lead to U.S. soldiers "fighting" [and] "dying" for Israel, is a blood libel perpetrated by poor scholarship and ignorance.
Myths and Facts
Eli E. Hertz
I've heard of the book "Myths and Facts", but I never heard of Eli Hertz. I know he did not write the original book that I got so many years ago back in college in the seventies, but I guess he bought the right to the name. Check the link and read about him. Quite an accomplished fellow in business and politics.
You may also know that Alan Dershowitz (I don't think you need a link about him!) spoke out today against this paper, decrying it as "trash" and stating :
“It could have been written by Pat Buchanan, by David Duke, Noam Chomsky, and some of the less intelligent members of Hamas. An intelligent member of Hamas would not have made these mistakes.”
I must admit that I did not personally read the report, only the report of the report in the Jerusalem Post. I think it's scary that just because something is published by a Harvard professor, it is given an automatic legitimacy and creditability. This comes at a bad time for AIPC which has not had an easy time of late.
Hertz' email contained the link to the paper, and I'm not giving it to you because it's 83 pages, and not worth your time. Thank you Eli and Alan for reading it instead of me. What I'd like to know is what should the rest of us, the ordinary Jewish citizen troups of the blogosphere, be doing about this anti-semitic propaganda? Any suggestions?

Hertz sponsored (i.e. funded) the first AICE edition of Myths & Facts (the September 2001 edition). He just funded it.
Myths & Facts was originally a project of AIPAC but it was taken over by Dr. Mitchell Bard, who has just released his 3rd edition of it, who also worked on AIPAC's editions in the 1980s. It is available at http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org
Shalom, Modoc!
You have an intelligent weblog, I enjoyed reading it.
I actually have a post on my blog about the Mearsheimer/Walt article (check it out). I sent a letter to the Wall Street Journal about it. Unfortunately, it was not published. They don't know what they missed!
I was nice meeting you on 'Shmooze'.
I meant "it".
